Q: Where to see farm animals in the city - not to mention real buffaloes

Answer: At Bear Creek Pioneers Park

This part of Addicks Reservoiron War Memorial Drive near North Eldridge Pkwy, is neither a farm, nor a petting zoo, but a park. Not your average park, mind you: one that has much more to offer than most others green-spaces for public use and recreation: even a horseshoe throwing court, in addition to the zoo-component (for want of a better term) featuring domesticated and (tame) wild animals

You can observe a variety of farm animals - such as sheep, goats, ponies and donkeys -- in pens and enclosures -- not to mention the more exotic ones, including colorful birds in the aviary (bird house) -- while strolling along the sidewalk on War Memorial Drive. Very kid and family-friendly indeed. Feeding the animals is not allowed, though. There are also ducks and geese that roam freely at the pond near the Park Administration building and the area where Harris County road and park maintenance vehicles are parked. Wild birds such as egrets and herons stop by there too.

Arguably, the buffaloes are the main attraction. Where else can you see buffaloes in the greater Houston area

Here are a few photos of the farm animals at Bear Creek Park:

Camera ports in the fence of the enclosures permit shoulder-level photography
